The obverse features the iconic design of Lady Liberty striding towards the sun, draped in the American flag, holding branches of laurel and oak, symbolizing civil and military glory. The design was created by Adolph A. Weinman. The word "LIBERTY" arcs above, "IN GOD WE TRUST" is to the right, and the year "1944" is at the bottom. The reverse depicts an eagle with wings unfolded, perched on a mountain crag, with a pine sapling growing from the rock. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" encircle the top and bottom edges, with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" to the left of the eagle.
